Severe Sinus Headache

If your sinus headache lasts more than one week, you can consider it severe and should see the doctor for treatment.

To soothe the symptoms of severe sinus headache quickly, you can use Aleve Cold & Sinus Caplets. You can get ten caplets between $3.79 and $6.49 at your local drug store or Wal-Mart. Take one of the caplets every twelve hours. It can eliminate problems with sinus pressure, minor body aches and pains, headache, nasal and sinus congestion (promotes sinus drainage and restores freer breathing through the nose), and fever. It can relieve the symptoms for four to eight hours and it is non-drowsy. Children of twelve years and older as well as adults can take Aleve Cold & Sinus Caplets. Each caplet contains 220mg of Naproxen Sodium and 120mg of Pseudoephedrine HCI. Naproxen sodium may cause a severe allergic reaction which may include hives, facial swelling, asthma (wheezing), and shock. If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take naproxen sodium or other pain reliever/fever reducers. Like ibuprofen, naproxen sodium may cause stomach bleeding. Do not take Aleve

  • if you've ever had an allergic reaction to any other pain reliever/fever reducer

  • if you're now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains an MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

  • if you are in the last three months of pregnancy since Naproxen Sodium can cause problems in the fetus as well as complicate the delivery.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are:

  • Using any other product containing naproxen or pseudoephedrine

  • Taking any other pain reliever/fever reducer or nasal decongestant

  • Under a doctor's care for any continuing medical condition taking other drugs on a regular basis

  • When using this product, do not use more than directed.

You can easily find decongestant such as Motrin Sinus Headache at any drug store to relieve your sinus headache. Motrin Sinus Headache contains 200mg of ibuprofen, which is a pain reliever, and 30mg of pseudoephedrine. Motrin Sinus Headache are intended for temporary relief of symptoms associated with sinusitis, the common cold or flu including nasal congestion, headache, body aches, pain and fever. It can be expensive as 20 coated caplets cost between $4.00 and $6.00. Unlike some other antihistamines, it doesn't make you feel drowsy. However, you may experience slight stomach upset. To stop stomach upset, take it with food or milk. The relief can last for four to eight hours. You cannot exceed more than six caplets in a twenty-four hour period and it is for anyone above 12 years of age. Again, it is not a cure for your sinus headache. Do not use Motrin

  • if you're allergic to ibuprofen or other pain relieving drugs, such as aspirin.

  • if you have 3 or more alcoholic drinks per day. Ibuprofen may cause stomach bleeding if mixed with alcohol.

To manage your allergy symptoms only, you can try an antihistamine called Benadryl Allergy Sinus Headache relief. It contains 12.5 miligrams of Diphenhydramine (antihistamine), 30 miligrams of Pseudophedrine (decongestant) and 500 miligrams of Acetaminophin (pain reliever). You can get a box of 48 caplets for $6.00. It can relieve your allergies up to eight hours. It also can cause drowsiness which doesn't allow you to drive or operate machinery. Do not take Benadryl Allergy Sinus Headache if you are under the influence of alcohol and if you are using any other medicines containing diphenhydramine, including one applied topically.

It is not suitable for

  • Children under 12 years of age

  • Elderly people

  • Those who are allergic to the antihistamine triprolidine

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women unless advised by doctors

  • Those who have kidney disease

If you have severe sinus congestion, here is a quick cure which you can make at home and works most of the time. Add one cup of tomato juice, one teaspoon of chopped fresh garlic, half teaspoon of hot sauce, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and a pinch or two of celery salt for flavor. Heat the ingredients together in a small pot and drink it while it is hot.

Sometimes, you may mistook severe sinus headache for migraine as both can cause nasal drainage and may be triggered by changes in weather or season. So, to find out if you have migraine instead of sinus headache, look out for migraine symptoms that suggest your "sinus" headache such as:

  • Moderate-to-severe pain

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Nausea

  • Pain aggravated by physical activity
